Native Hardwood Lumber

All of the lumber we sell was grown on the 70 acres of forest on our farm in northeast Iowa.  Scot does all the harvesting, hauling, sawing, and stacking, with occasional help from friends or neighbors.  Boards are air dried in our wood shed (built mostly of Big Tooth Aspen lumber that we harvested to make room for Oaks), then kiln dried in Babe the Blue Box, our home-made kiln.  For more information about Babe,

Once the lumber is dried to 5 - 7 % moisture content in Babe, it is stored in our climate controlled basement.  Most of the lumber we sell is "raw", that is to say it hasn't been planed or edge-jointed.  Some of the lumber has superficial stain marks which should disappear with minimal sanding or planing.  Many boards have other defects – deeper staining, knots, cracks, insect damage, or other degradation.  We believe these imperfections add character and beauty to the wood.  (In our opinion bad character is better than no character : )  If you desire lumber that has one or more surfaces surfaced, please inquire, we'll be happy to provide this service for an additional charge.
