ABOUT

TEAM

We have been living on our home place for 22 years and plan on being here for many more years to come. It has always been our intention to leave this land better than when we bought it.  To this end, we have planted prairies and been actively involved in timber improvements projects over the years.  It seemed like a good idea to purchase a saw mill to process cleared trees into useful lumber.

OUR HOME PLACE

We live on a 160 acre farm in southern Clayton County, IA.  Amidst the ridges and ravines which characterize the drifless area, our farm contains 70 acres of forest in 3 separate parcels, 5 acres of meadow planted to hardwood forest 9 years ago, 1 acre of Marechal Foch grapes, and about 80 acres of tillable land which is in the CRP program.  Much of that meadow land is planted in tallgrass prairie.   Scot's hobby has expanded into this business, which he spends his free time developing.  Down the road after retirement, he will be able to devote more time to Home Place Hardwoods.

PLANS FOR HOME PLACE HARDWOODS & WEBSITE

We are new to this business enterprise, and we will learn a lot from our customers.  Please be nice with your feedback!

Plans for the future include:

1) Expansion of our inventory, as more batches of wood are kiln dried.

2) Adding a map of our forest areas to the site, so you can better understand where the wood is coming from, and what our forest management plan is all about.

3) Currently we are working on drying our stack of 5' lumber.  Once that's done, the next stack is the 5 1/2' boards,  Then the 6' boards.  You get the picture.  So, longer boards are on the way.
