Northeast Iowa has surprisingly dramatic topography, with massive limestone bluffs, talus slopes, deep valleys, springs, and sinkholes. The Silurian Escarpment, a prominent feature of this unique area, runs right through our farm.

This is looking northeast at a trail through a prairie meadow. The forest management area to the right is "Cherries in the Snow". To the left is "The Enchanted Boxelder Forest", home to a dozen nice straight young Walnuts.

This is looking northeast over a 5-acre forest we planted a few years ago. The white vertical shafts are "grow tubes", placed over Oak seedlings to protect them from hungry deer. Oak buds are like candy for deer, so if you want Oak seedlings to survive, you have to take special measures to protect them.
